LONDON (MarketWatch) -- Energy sector stocks led a low-volume European market higher on the first trading day of the year, with the Russian and Ukrainian dispute over gas prices giving some traders belief that energy price strength would continue in 2006. Hopes for French automakers also helped Continental stocks end higher.
